Killing Time

August 26, 2014

killing timeHow many times have you heard the expression, “I have some time to kill” ? Every time I hear this, I cringe! Really, who wants to actually kill time?  Killing anything for that matter is horrible enough. Time is our most precious commodity. We only get so much of it before we are gone from this earth, so why would you want to kill time? People have a tendency to say things unconsciously without thinking of the actually meaning or content. Every moment is sacred. There is no such thing as extra time. If you are waiting, stuck in traffic, feeling bored, or anything which gives you the illusion of extra time, think, feel, use your imagination, or meditate, to get the most value from time. If you are competing in the Olympics, every fraction of a second counts. Make your time count. One day you will look back upon your life, and wonder, where did the time go?

Turn! Turn! Turn!

seasonsTo everything-turn, turn, turn

There is a season- turn, turn, turn

And a time to every purpose under the heaven

A time to be born, a time to die

A time to plant, a time to reap

A time to kill, a time to heal

A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything- turn, turn, turn

There is a season- turn, turn, turn, turn

And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down

A time to dance, a time to mourn

A time to cast away stones

A time to gather stones together

To everything- turn, turn, turn

There is a season- turn, turn, turn

And a time to every purpose under the heaven

A time of love, a time of hate

A time of war, a time of peace

A time you may embrace

A time to refrain from embracing

To everything- turn, turn, turn

There is a season- turn, turn, turn

And a time to every purpose under the heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose

A time to rend, a time to sew

A time for love, a time for hate

A time for peace, I swear it’s not to late!

The Byrds

I too swear, it’s not to late, it is time!

Choose Your Way

August 12, 2014

good attitude“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing, the last of human freedoms, to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”   Victor Frankl

Yesterday, I was driving home from Connecticut, with a piece of furniture I found on craigs list. It barely fit into my minivan. I mean if it was a fraction of an inch bigger, it would not have gone in. (Getting it out, is another story) I was squished up against the steering wheel while driving home, since I needed every bit of space for it. Needless to say, I was very uncomfortable. On top of that, I got stuck in traffic that came to a screeching halt for over an hour! It took three and a half hours to get home. It took every ounce of conscious deliberate thought to focus my mind on positive things, rather than to feel the frustration, claustrophobia, and discomfort that was actually taking place. I concentrated my thoughts on my goals and dreams instead. The time allowed me to choose my own way.  I know that what I focus on will expand, so I choose to use my freedom of thought, to think good thoughts. I am so grateful to have the wisdom to know that at anytime, if I do not like the circumstance I am in, I can change it by choosing my own way.

Confrontation

August 5, 2014

confrontationIn the confrontation between the rock and the stream, the stream always wins, not through strength, but through persistence.

The Buddha

Are you afraid of confrontation? Many people are. I was, until I became aware of the damage I caused myself and others. You see, confrontation is healthy and necessary for your own spiritual progress. It is not always easy to confront someone without it turning into a battle of egos. That’s not what confrontation is all about. It is about speaking your truth and allowing others to hear it. If you feel like someone is taking advantage of you, speak up! You see, we teach others how to treat us. We need to express our feelings in a healthy way, and there is no other way Avoidance is not resolution! I feel so much better and healthier, now that I confront a situation that does not resonate with my highest good. What you resist will persist, so confront the situation with confidence, truth and persistence.
