Every Day Is Extra

Life is short, and if we enjoy every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way.

Former Senator John Kerry’s memoir was recently released entitled “Every Day is Extra”. In it he writes about the struggles he had during his life and how he was able to forge ahead with a positive attitude, courage and faith. He faced many setbacks, family illnesses, crisis and tough decisions.

Let’s face it, life can be tough at times. Not every day is going to be a great day. Sometimes you may have days, months or even years of challenging times. Maybe you are being faced with a family member diagnosed with a serious illness, addiction or crisis. Maybe we ourselves are confronting a personal battle. I know what its like. Both my parents were Holocaust survivors and I have a daughter with addiction issues. It ain’t always easy.

However, if you wake up every day and realize that every day is extra, that every moment is another chance to create and do something better than the day before, you will be able to navigate uncertainties with faith and courage.

 

Look, no one gets out alive. Your time here is limited and you will be confronted with tough days. The storms, droughts, and other unexpected mishaps will come. But with an attitude of gratitude, knowing that every day is extra, you can turn any rainy day into a a day of appreciation and goodness.

Lift Your Attitude

I’ve come to realize that my attitude will dictate every result I get in my life. I’m sure you heard this message too growing up.  Things like; if you had better attitude, you could get better grades in school, or, with an attitude like that you can go to your room, right?  The only thing is no one ever told us how to get a better attitude. What is attitude anyway?  Well the dictionary describes it as;

1-A position of the body or manner of carrying oneself, indicative of mood or condition.

2-A state of mind or feeling about some matter.

3-A way of behaving; disposition.

In other words, my thoughts, feelings, and actions must all be aligned in a positive way, for me to be perceived and received as authentic. When this happens, I will radiate with confidence.

To do this, I have to be willing and able to honestly look at the results I am presently getting in my life. I know that at the center of my being is love, truth and a life that is connected to a higher intelligence. I also know I have gotten mixed messages about myself and the world as I was growing up.  These negative messages have formed my behaviors and beliefs.  Even though they didn’t feel good, I grew up not realizing how these limiting beliefs affected my attitude and everything in my life.

Now I know that I can change my perception about those beliefs. I choose to align with my higher self and develop an attitude of gratitude. Once I begin to make that shift, my whole world will reflect these results back to me, as a mirror reflects an image. Choosing to take responsibility for your attitude will improve the quality of your relationships which will bring unimaginable abundance into your life. A One, Two Punch!

I think one of the biggest challenges people go through is that their too hard on themselves. We beat ourselves up with guilt, shame and other negative emotions. Why do we do this to ourselves? It is because over the years, people have spilled their negative energy on you, their attitudes, their beliefs, their unhealthy self -esteem. Where did they get it? The same way you have been getting it. People have spilled it on them. And on on it goes until you STOP being to hard on yourself.

I should have done it better! I should have passed that test! I shouldn’t have ate that box of chocolates! Some times we screw up, it’s OK! The more we go through this cycle the longer we stay in.

When we learn to love ourselves and embrace our strengths and our weaknesses, we can stop knocking ourselves down and raise up.

We are spiritual beings having this human experience. Being human is to enjoy and celebrate life. To celebrate You! Celebrate being here now! Celebrate all the good things that you’ve done and are continuing to accomplish. Celebrate your lessons in life. Celebrate the little things.

You do not have to try harder, be better, be perfect, or anything other than being YOU!

Your good enough and a child of God! You are a gift, so celebrate that!

Use It or Loss It!

Success is the result of behavior, which is determined by attitudes, which are formed by conditioning, which takes place through spaced repetition.

Actually, it all starts with the thoughts we think, which will lead to the same choices. The same choices always create the same behaviors, and the same behaviors will always create the same experiences and the same experiences will always create the same emotions and those emotions will drive the same thoughts. Whew! So how do we change?

Through spaced repetition. 

Repetitive learning is the only vehicle to modify conditioning, which alters the attitude that controls behavior, which produces results we want.

Years ago when I wanted to change my negative thinking and behaviors, I would listen to audio tapes in my car when I was driving, watch motivational videos, read inspirational books, keep a gratitude journal, say affirmations, go to seminars, associate with positive people to change and most importantly, hire a coach! You know what? I still do the same things years later.

You must continue to change every day because if you don’t use it, you lose it.

Give Your Best

give-your-bestThere is a subtle shift in pushing yourself to be the  best in the world and allowing yourself to being your best for the world. This is not an easy shift. Because when we concentrate on being the best in the world, it is easy to get caught up with all the trappings that are associated with giving your talents and abilities, such as money and recognition.

In contrast, when our efforts are devoted to being the best for the world, we approach our tasks with an attitude of service and grace. Our perception widens, as we are not thinking only of ourselves. Instead, we focus on using our talents and energy as best we can.

It is an inward shift and you will always be giving more with an attitude of gratitude.  It is an energetic connection with the infinite source of abundance and you, providing service to the world.

I was honored and privileged to be among the most luminary minds the last two days that are shifting the consciousness of the planet and being the best for the world!

Instead of asking what’s in it for me? Ask, How may I serve?

Your Program is Not Working For You!

“Programming creates belief, beliefs create attitudes; attitudes create feelings; feelings determine actions; actions create results.” Erasing and rewriting your own program with specific commands is thus the most permanent, logical, and precise way to change your life. I know there are many modalities that can change the programming that we have been downloaded with through our childhood, however I have found the most effective and lasting is self talk. This is more than just positive affirmations. Self talk is a technique that will literally reprogram your mind, Hearing yourself talk out loud, internally or play back from a recording you make with your own voice is a simple yet powerful method that will increase your self-esteem to new heights!

The answers we seek are all inside of ourselves and when we tap into the conversations we are having with ourselves we begin to open the door way to understand the dialog that is going on between our ears. We all talk to ourselves whether we think we do or don’t. The difference is, if you are communicating in the language that is most effective for your subconscious mind to understand.

What’s On Your Mind

Well it’s February 3rd, and the temperatures are in the single digits outside. Ice and snow are covering just about everything here on Long Island. It’s difficult to walk and to do any outside activity except shovel, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to warm up anytime soon. Most of all activities that took place yesterday evening were cancelled due to the weather. Brrrrrrr!!!!

Indoors, it’s warm and cozy. I have heated floors, a beautiful new kitchen, and all the comforts of a modern home. However, I have three little dogs, three cats, and a bird. Yes, I love animals. What I don’t love, is cleaning up after them! Since its been so frigid outside, the cats don’ t want to go out and the dogs can’t walk because it hurts their paws. So I have wee wee pads all over and litter boxes that need to be cleaned a few times a day. They are also having accidents in different places. I am a neat freak, and this is freaking me out! I get completely unhinged when I think about it. Then, I remembered Victor Frankls’ book, Mans Search for Meaning. What a powerful story he shares with humanity. The main message in the book is “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms, to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

Wow, that put things for me, in perspective real fast. Yes, I’m not over joyed about cleaning up after my animals, but, I can choose to see it in a different way. I can choose to appreciate my pets, be grateful for my home, be thankful that I am able to care for them, and  focus on what is good rather than whats not. So, what’s on your mind?
