Practice the Pause

How hard is it to keep cool under pressure? For me it has been a practice. I would be okay with strangers and not react, but with people close to me, well that was much harder. That knee jerk reaction would just get the better of me. I would say things I later would regret. It also started to become a pattern. Every time my older daughter would do or say something that I thought wasn’t right, I would open my big mouth and put my two cents in. This would go on and on until I finally became aware of what about the dynamics of our relationship I was playing a part of.  I admit, I do not like the way she chooses to live her life but she is an adult and I must learn to pause. It ain’t easy!

Practicing this has made all the difference in myself and my relationship with her. Not that she has changed her habits or life style, but I have created a space for being present without judgement or resentment. She really is my greatest teacher. Teaching me patience, acceptance, non-judgement, love, compassion, peace and happiness. Who is your greatest teacher? Do you have  someone close to you that presses all those painful buttons in you? Once I looked deeper into our relationship I saw unhealed parts in me that she was reflecting back. Love can be messy. It can be painful. It can be raw and vulnerable. Practicing the pause, allows for healing to take place. It allows you to surrender to the moment and just sit in whatever is bubbling up in you without reacting. However uncomfortable it may feel in the moment, stay with the pause and it will eventually begin to dissolve into peace, and that peace will radiate out into others.

Listen deeply. breath deeply, and love deeply. It is here where you will release all those old patterns of hurt and suffering. The world is hurting right now. People are hurting. I have learned to pause, to be mindful of what I am doing and how I am being that either contributes to the suffering or contributes to happiness and peace. Between Worlds

I feel like I am living between worlds.  I still have one foot in the old world, a world that is quickly vanishing and my other foot in a brave new world. When will I allow myself to totally embrace the new and let go of the old? Maybe it is being courageous enough to just walk right into it. Maybe all I have to do is leave behind all the baggage of  limiting thoughts, beliefs, habits, behaviors and fears that have created all the upheaval in the world. Could it be that easy? Does it take a crisis to recognize this truth?

 

So many questions. There are many people who are hurting more than ever. The massive changes in the world has caused havoc in peoples  lives. Alcoholism, child abuse, domestic violence are at an all time high. In Naturopathic terms, this is called a healing crisis. Everything is coming to the surface to be healed. All our fears, worries, insecurities, and darkness that we want to hide is all being revealed. The corruption, deceit, and cover-ups are bubbling up to the surface. Everything is being exposed.

Staying calm in the midst of the upheaval takes faith in knowing that everything is for the greater good. The divine operation is always for expansion and greater expression. This means something beyond what has gone before. Something entirely new. However, this understanding comes from deep contemplation and practice. Practicing being mindful and to observe my emotions, is where the answers to these questions reveal themselves. To listen and feel my feelings without judgement. To be compassionate with myself and love myself deeply. When I do this, I am ready to step into the brave new world. I then am ready to let go of the old world of limitation and put both feet fully committed into the unknown. A world that is full of miracles and wonder. Are You a Good Student?

Discipline is being able to force yourself to do something in spite of how you feel over and over and over until it becomes a habit.

The word discipline comes from the Latin word discipulus meaning “student”. Or you can say to be a learner. In other words having self discipline in being a good student who wants to learn. It is a high level of awareness to give yourself a command and follow through with it. If you want to be a great musician, you have to practice playing your instrument every day for hours. If you want to be a great athlete you have to train your mind and body every day, in spite of how tired or achy you feel. This goes for anything you desire to master.

This year my word that I am giving my attention to is FOCUS. I will discipline myself to focus on the things I desire to manifest into my life in a relaxed state of mind. I say relaxed because if I try to force myself to do this in a tense way, I am just sabotaging my efforts. What is it that you really want to create in your life for 2020? With discipline, you can make it happen. Hire a coach, get an accountability partner and practice, practice practice!

What You Appreciate, Appreciates

There are so many things that can throw you off balance and make you feel bad, angry, resentful, bitter, disappointed or sad. For many years I would focus on what was wrong in my life rather than appreciate what was right. I was living in a vortex of negativity which gave me more stuff that wasn’t working in my life. Are you living in this vortex? Until I finally woke up and realized that my life was a train wreck!

When I began to switch it around and began focusing on what I appreciated, my life start to appreciate in so many wonderful ways. It truly is amazing how this practice can change your outlook on life! Now, every morning I write down what I am grateful for and share my appreciation to whoever I met. The energy of love, appreciation, gratitude, kindness and compassion has completely transformed my life. I am calm,peaceful and patient most of the time.

Even when things don’t go the way you thought they should, you can feel appreciation. When you live with gratitude in your heart and treat others with respect and love, something magical happens. Your energy changes and attracts more good things. If you practice this for 30 days, you will see a major shift in your life. Then practice it for the rest of your life! I know how my life turned around and I know yours will too.


I Flopped

Did you ever try something and just flop? I was asked to be one of the  speakers for a start-up TV internet show, which I’ve done before. I mean, this was not my first rodeo. I’ve spoken many times before, but this time, I just flopped. I could blame it on the stage, the distractions that were numerous or any number of other things, however the bottom line is a screwed up. I had my talk memorized, I practiced over and over and over again. I recorded myself, I read it out load so many times I can’t even count. I wrote it on index cards, nothing helped. And it wasn’t even like I got nervous, it was just this weird brain freeze that occurred. So, I just improvised. Everyone in the audience said it was great, but I know what my good is and it was far from that. But you know what? I was okay with flopping. I didn’t beat myself up over it.

In the past, I would have been so hard on myself, but now, I strike it up to experience. I get back up and go do it again. Sometimes we get knocked down. Sometimes we fail, sometimes we make mistakes and some times we don’t make the grade.

I ask myself what did I learn from this experience and how can I improve?

Nothing helpful will come from beating yourself up over a failure. It is all about failing forward. failure is part of success. If you haven’t failed most likely you won’t succeed. So the next time you flop, brushed yourself, congratulate yourself for even trying and onward and upward.

 

 


I’m So Frustrated

When you are learning something new, do you get totally frustrated if you aren’t picking it up as easily as you would like? Learning a new skill requires effort, focus, concentration, repetition, desire and a host of other things that keep you engaged. It can be frustrating!

It is part of the learning curve. I’m going through this right now. I am involved in 3 online courses that has got me screaming sometimes. I have so much work to do. I feel like I’m back in school. Well I am kinda. I love to learn. I love to dig deep into subjects of the mind. It’s my addiction. I am fascinated by how the brain works so I’m studying neuroscience. It ain’t easy. I just want to throw all the books up in the air sometimes.

 

Thank God I know this is a part of the learning process. I know I will get really good at understanding how the brain works when I keep learning, studying and applying this material to my every day life.

So how about you? What would you like to learn? Maybe you would like to learn a new language. You might suck at speaking it for awhile but with practice you will get better and better.

Your Power Within

your invisible powerWe all have a power within us when realized and activated can alter your reality. Your dreams and desires have been given to you to make manifest. A quote from Genevieve Behrend in her book, Your Invisible Power that was written in 1912 says; ” When your understanding grasps the power to visualize your heart’s desire and hold it with your will, it attracts to you all things requisite to the fulfillment of that picture by the harmonious vibrations of the law of attraction.” Let’s break this down so that you can understand it better. First, understanding comes from study. You must amerce yourself in studying the natural laws of the universe to become aware of the infinite potential in the quantum field. Then you imagine and visualize what it is that you would like to make real. Remember, every thing is created twice, once is your mind and then that energy transmutes into the physical. Your heart’s desire has to be felt through out your body in intense emotion ( energy in motion). In other words, your mind and body must become one and the image is so real in your mind’s eye that you are experiencing the image as already manifest. Keep your attention on that image and be thankful that it has already been created in one form. Now all you have to do is believe, take action toward your desire and it must come to you because you are radiating the frequency out, like a radio wave into the universe. Practice, and study. The power is within you.


Living in Faith

faithFaith is finding answers in the heart. Sometimes life can be very challenging, and we’re, not sure how to move forward. Faith, will always guide you when you just take that first step. Faith cannot be seen by the eyes, or heard by the ears, but rather, felt by the heart. It is a trusting that all is moving towards the good when you take that leap of faith. You must first feed your mind with encouraging words. Then translate these thoughts into feelings that will begin to be supported by faith to begin believing in yourself. Every step you take to empower yourself, you are stepping into faith. Your faith will get stronger and stronger as you continually trust in yourself.

Faith comes from within. Nothing in the physical world will give it to you. You must develop it from within your mind and spirit. Fear will always test your faith. Whatever beliefs you grew up with that are keeping you stuck in feelings of lack, limitation, or unworthiness, needs to be transmuted into a life of faith. Faith can be developed, by meditation, study, prayer, forgiveness, love, and practice. Every day you can either live in fear, which will hold you back, and keep you imprisoned or move forward with faith. Life becomes a glorious adventure of freedom when you trust in your higher power and live in faith. I choose faith and freedom. How about you?


Practice, practice, practice

practiceHow do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice. How do you get to be in the Olympics? Practice, practice, practice. How do you get great at anything? Practice, practice, practice. Practice does not make perfect, however it does make it permanent. You can become a master at your craft and it will appear perfect, which is all well and good, but the main thing is that it will become permanently engrained in your being. You will become one with your craft. Therefore, you will unlocked the key to discovering your truth and gift. By practicing over and over and over again, what you do will appear easy and flawless. You will be giving the world your highest form of express. As I watch the winter Olympics on television, I am in awe of the talent, abilities and sheer determination of these magnificent athletes.
They not only practice physically but rehearse there sport in their mind over and over and over again. What  do you what to master? All you have to do is practice, practice, practice!
